The Sierra Nevadas - Art

The Sierra Nevada mountain range is just plain rugged, no other word for it. A young mountain range in geological terms and still has its pointy sharp peaks waiting to be rounded down with the passing of time....the peaks range from 11,000 to 14,000 feet with Mt. Whitney being the tallest at 14,494 feet, the highest peak in the lower 48 states.....Shared by California and Nevada, the Sierras were problematic to the early settlers of the West due to a small window of passage...to be trapped in these mountains during a winter is unimaginable....the Donner Party found this out during the snows of 1847 and the rest is history...
